I read a column in the Metro newspaper today regarding relationships and that despite all of our perceptions and misconceptions that women and men are equal in all aspects, obviously we know that this is not true in all areas. Anyways to the point...
When men and women were both surveyed in their thoughts of what they looked for in a mate, humour was ranked pretty high on the list. However, their views on humour were very different; women preferred men who made them laugh and men preferred women who laughed at their jokes.
So this leads to main question: Why is it that funny women aren't preferred but rather women who laugh are?
It's funny that men say they would prefer women with a sense of humour, but this actually translates into "women who will laugh at my jokes and think/say I'm funny." The women who can joke around with the boys are seen as friends, one-of-the-boys, and definitely not within girlfriend-material. Apparently the girls who can handle themselves and joke with the guys make their boyfriends more uncomfortable than proud that their girls can handle themselves in a social setting.
Kudos to the guys who're comfortable with themselves and appreciate their girlfriend's wittiness.
